Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball Review

Today I want to talk about Shawl in a Ball by Lion Brand , I’ve seen this yarn a few times when I’ve been browsing online yarn stores and thought it looked gorgeous. Lion Brand claim that you can make a complete shawl with just one ball of yarn.

I finally bought some this week and couldn’t wait to make something with it! I decided not to make a shawl, instead I’m making a scarf and will add tassels. I think it will look stunning when it’s finished, I’ve only just started it but I already love how it looks and feels.

So, let me tell you what I think of Shawl in a Ball.

Well, first off it feels soft, really soft. It has a luxurious feel but it’s light at the same time, this is because it’s made from 58% cotton which gives it that light as air feel. The yarn itself is quite fine, Lion Brand class it as  Medium 4 weight, but I think it’s more like a #3.

When I started crocheting with it I became aware that it goes from fine to a fuzzier, slightly thicker thread. For me this isn’t a bad thing as I think it gives added texture, but some people may not like it.

I do recommend that you keep an eye on the yarn ball when you're using it, because it can become tangled and knotted quite easily as you work. I'm not sure if this is because of how the yarn is balled or because its so fine, this is my only problem with this yarn but if you keep a close watch on it you shouldn't have a problem.

The colours in this yarn are gorgeous, I got 4 different colours, they were -

Community Coral, colours range from very pale pink, to salmon, coral, candy pink, fuchsia and dark berry tones.

Restful Rainbow , colours are bright and vibrant ranging from gold, orange, rust, fuchsia, purple, and
blue tones.

Mindful Mauve, shades of lilac, mauve, violet, grey and white.

Healing Teal, vibrant teal, turquoise, jade and blue tones.

I love all of the colours I bought, they are stunning. The colour changes look really nice and blend well. I’m using the Community Coral colour-way for my scarf, as you can see from the picture it’s already looking great. I think it will be beautiful when finished.

All in all I was very pleased with Shawl in a Ball and I will definitely buy it again. I’ve just found out it’s available in metallic as well so I will definitely be checking that out, I love sparkly yarn!

If you don’t mind using fine yarn and don’t mind a bit of fuzz then I highly recommend this yarn. It feels so soft and light and the colours are beautiful and it does make gorgeous shawls and scarves. I bought mine so I could make Christmas gifts for family and friends, the scarf I’ve started being the first in a long  line of gifts I've got to do!

If you don’t like working with fine yarn or you aren’t a fan of fuzzy yarn then I wouldn’t recommend this yarn for you.

If you are interested, the scarf I am working on is a Granny Ripple Scarf, I followed a tutorial on YouTube by Blossom Crochet. Rebekah is a great teacher and her tutorials are easy to follow and she has lots of beautiful projects you can get stuck into, so if you're a beginner then I highly recommend that you visit this channel.

I hope this post has been helpful to anyone thinking of purchasing Shawl in a Ball or if you were just looking for a yarn to make a beautiful shawl or scarf, I'm sure whatever you decide to make will be stunning.

Until next time fellow crocheters!
