Nobbly Bobbly Scarf - Free Pattern

My love for crochet is a fairly recent thing, I first picked up a hook a year ago and decided to give crocheting a go.

At first it was frustrating, I struggled to hold the hook and yarn, then I had trouble getting consistent tension, I thought I’d never be able to do it! Then, all of a sudden everything just clicked. It took lots of practice, I can’t tell you how many times I crocheted a sample square then unraveled it and started again!

As soon as I felt confident that I had the basic stitches down (dc, htr, tr), I Set about finding a good beginner project. The first thing I ever made was a hat, a simple puff stitch hat made in the round. I was so proud of it, I still am, it gave me the belief that I could Crochet and that I could be good at it.

Since then I haven’t stopped crocheting! Since Christmas I’ve made 2 baby blankets, 5 baby hats, 3 sets of booties, a baby cardigan (my cousin had a baby in case you were wondering!), a shawl, 3 adult hats, and a unicorn cushion cover! Phew...

I’ve got WIPs on the go at the moment as well, but that’ll be in another post.

I thought I’d share the pattern for this scarf I’ve recently completed, it’s perfect for beginners as it just uses dc, htr, and dtr crochet stitches and it’s a simple two row repeat. It’s gives a lovely bobbled effect (I think its known as Cobble stitch), and a lovely textured feel, it works up really quickly too and the tassels add that little extra something.

For this pattern you will need -

6mm crochet hook
2 balls of Simply DK Paintbox Yarn, I used Grass Green but you can use any DK weight yarn and colour of your choice.

Darning needle

Tension/Guage is not important for this pattern.

Finished measurements for my scarf are 8 in wide, 64 in long (not including tassels).

The Pattern -

Foundation chain should be in multiples of 2 + 2 additional chains.

Chain 26 + 2 additional chains, these count as your turning chain (28 total)

Row 1 - 1 dc into the 2nd chain from hook, then 1 dc into each chain stitch until you reach the end, ch 1, turn.
Row 2 - 1 dc into the same stitch, 1 dtr into next stitch, *1 dc into next stitch, 1 dtr into next stitch. Repeat until end of the row, ending on a dc, ch 1, turn.

Row 3 - 1 htr into same stitch, 1 htr into every stitch, ch 1, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you reach 157 rows.

Row 158 - dc into every stitch along.

Fasten off, sew in the ends.

For the tassels -

Grab a cd or dvd case and wrap yarn around it 12-15 times.

Cut the yarn at the top and bottom so you are left with strands of yarn.

Cut another length of yarn, approx 10 in, and tie around the centre of the strands, this will give you a basic tassel shape.

Cut another length of yarn, again around 10 in.

Leaving approx 1 1/2 cm at the top of the tassel, tightly tie the second length of yarn around the tassel.

Thread your darning needle with the two ends of the remaining yarn, pass needle into the top of the tassel and pull the yarn ends down through the centre.

Trim off any uneven ends and tie on to the bottom of your scarf at regular intervals. I made 5 tassels for each end.

Thats it, I hope you enjoy making this super easy scarf.
